INNER WEST HAWKS FC

A Proud History of Community and Football

Inner West Hawks FC, originally known as Stanmore Hawks FC, has a rich history that dates back to 1978. Founded by the Greek-Cypriot community of Sydney, the club started out as “Cyprus United”. It was created by a group of young men who had come to Australia for a new life, looking for friendship and a sense of community through football. Their dream was to play at the highest level and inspire future generations with hope, mentorship, and ambition.

The Journey Through the Leagues

By 1990, Stanmore Hawks FC was in the NSW 3rd Division, where they won the league and moved up to the NSW 2nd Division, also known as the NSW Super League. The club’s success continued in 1992 when they won the league again, earning a spot in the top tier, the NSW Premier League, for the 1993 season.

Despite a few challenging seasons and a relegation in 1995, the club showed resilience. They stayed in the NSW Super League for a decade before moving to the third division in 2007.

Recent Success and Rebranding

A competition restructure in 2013 saw the club drop to the NSW State League Division 2. Undeterred, Stanmore Hawks FC dominated the league that year, winning 16 games and scoring 66 goals. They were crowned Premiers and Champions, winning the Grand Final 1-0 against Fairfield City.
Since then, the club has been a strong contender in the National Premier League (NPL) 3 NSW League. In 2019, the hard work paid off as they reclaimed the NPL 3 Premiers Title, finishing the season with 60 points, 72 goals scored, and only 27 conceded.
In 2021, the club rebranded to Inner West Hawks FC to embrace a broader community across the inner west suburbs, following local council amalgamations.
